East & West: Stories of India now in India, UK, and USA

Posted by on Mar 16, 2024 in Catherine Ann Jones, Catherine's Blog

This particular collection of stories is imagined – though sometimes inspired by fact. They came about because of a marriage that carried me away to far- off India, which became my spiritual home. From my own experience of living many years in India, the sublime mythology of this great and complex culture so permeates the personal that myth often becomes reality – and reality, myth.
The aim of these stories is to serve as a kind of portal into the daily lives and emotional realities that reflect the rich depth and humanity that is India.

Return from India, Jetlag, and Keats

John Keats (1795–1821)        Recently returned from two weeks in India where I embarked upon a solitary retreat sans phone, sans Netflix, sans friends. Heal Your Self with Writing at Rancho del Malibu – October 12, 2013

Our lives may be determined less by past events than by the way we remember them. If we learn how to re-frame the pieces of our past and rewrite our life story so that our pain becomes meaningful, we can radically boost our chances of healing, empowerment, growth and transformation. Focused journaling is an extremely powerful way to achieve that aim. No previous writing experience is necessary.

Heal Your Self With Writing – Amazon VINE VOICE™ Review

I had the good fortune to take a journal writing workshop with the playwright and screenwriter Catherine Ann Jones. In the course of the four-day workshop, I filled several composition books with enthusiastic notes from her teachings and wild revelations prompted by her focused journal writing exercises. Much to my great delight, Catherine Ann Jones’ new book, “Heal Your Self with Writing,” distills everything I scribbled in my notebooks, and reminds me again how journaling can help us to see our life story from a more cosmic, universal perspective.

Heal Your Self with Writing

Our lives may be determined less by past events than by the way we remember
them. Expressing and listening to one’s own life story is an ancient mode of healing. How do we learn to listen more to the stories that heal? How do we put together the pieces of our past? How can we rewrite our life story so that pain becomes meaningful and actually promotes growth and transformation?

Our lives may be determined less by past events than by the way we remember them. You are invited to come aboard this inner adventure that offers a step by step journey of discovery and re-visioning through focused journaling. Throughout the eight sessions, you will be engaged in exercises designed to facilitate healing and transformation. Telling stories about our past through focused journaling can help change our perspectives to enable healing and empowerment. In this way, we are able to make meaning out of memory and put the past where it belongs – behind us. Healing and transformation are only possible through changing one’s perspective from within. In this way, global healing takes place one individual, one tribe, at a time. What story are you living? How do you choose to remember your story?
There is a Native American parable about a grandfather who says, I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one.” When asked which wolf will win the fight in his heart, the old man replies, “The one I feed.”
How do we learn to “feed” the stories that heal?
How do we put together the pieces of our past? How can we rewrite our life story so that pain becomes meaningful and actually promotes growth and transformation? One answer lies in focused journaling. Join award-winning writer and global teacher Catherine Ann Jones in this course.
No writing experience is necessary.

“I first taught this class at the Esalen Institute and was amazed at the response. Several participants felt that they were able to heal a split within themselves in just a few days that had not been healed in years of traditional therapy. One woman later wrote me that she had felt separated from herself since being victimized by a sexual assault at the age of fifteen. After the Esalen experiential workshop, she felt reconnected through the focused journaling exercises. She had returned to herself.”

Catherine Ann Jones In 1994, Quentin Taratino wrote a fictional story about Mickey & Mallory Knox, a honeymoon couple who, as a perverse aphrodisiac, randomly shot and killed over 50 people. Oliver Stone directed the film and the week it opened, a real young couple in the Midwest went on a rampage killing 4-5 strangers. […]

Non-duality Press: Book review of The Way of Story

Catherine Ann Jones gets to the heart of writing a story. The book’s emphasis is on knowing who you are. Jones tells about her personal experiences in the world of writing and writers and this contributes a texture of behind-the-scenes humanness.

Sometimes story ideas may arise from what happens to us in our own lives. Yet they usually connect with something felt within. My first long play was about Virginia Woolf. I was still acting then and had been cast to play Virginia Woolf in the comedy, An Evening in Bloomsbury by Victoria Sullivan, produced off-Broadway in New York.

The Way of Story – by Catherine Ann Jones

Sometimes story ideas may arise from what happens to us in our own lives. Yet they usually connect with something felt within. The Art of Pitching – (Teaching in the NYC workshop) – Catherine Ann Jones

In olden days in Hollywood, studio heads such as Louis B. Mayer or David Selznick would say, “Just tell me the story”-not let me read the story. The fact is most Hollywood execs do not like to read. This is as true today as then. Jack Warner (Warner Brothers) once said, “I would rather take a fifty-mile hike than crawl through a book.” Sam Goldwyn (MGM) remarked, “I read part of it all the way through.”
